The Catamount Trail: 300 Miles of Cross-Country Skiing the Length of Vermont
At 300 miles in length and spanning the state of Vermont from bottom to top, the Catamount Trail is one of Vermont’s treasured gems. It is a cross-country ski trail that has been in the making since 1984 and was fully linked together in 2008. Skiers and snowshoers take to the trail every winter season — most for the day, many on CTA tours and some to go end-to-end — all enjoying the backcountry, touring center, farmland and village surroundings along the way. Celebrate our 25th Anniversary by joining us on one of our many tours or special events.

Catamount Trail Association Takes 3rd Place in National Grant Contest
Thanks for your support!
Jim Fredericks, Executive Director of the Catamount Trail Association attended the official announcement of the recipients of the Redwood Creek Outdoor Project Grant in Salt Lake City, UT over the weekend. Representatives from the top five non-profits were flown to the Outdoor Retailer Show compliments of Redwood Creek Winery to witness the announcement of the grant winner and runner-up. The announcement took place before thousands of outdoor enthusiasts at a Rusted Root concert. The $50,000 first place grant award went to Trout Unlimited and the second place award of $10,000 was given to the Friends of the Cheat. Even though we were not allowed to view the final voting numbers, we were told that the Catamount Trail Association came in a very close 3rd place.
I want to take this time to thank all the supporters of the CTA who made the effort to cast daily votes for our organization. We were up against some very large non-profits and although we didn't come home with money, we did receive some great national exposure. With or without this money, our mission will still be to conserve the last 90 miles of unprotected Trail and keep the entire 300-miles open for your skiing enjoyment this winter and for many winters to come.
A Note from Gert Lepine!
April 1, 2008
Dear Friends at the Catamount Trail,
What a great party we had at our house due to the Trail.
The Kroka Expedition had scheduled a stop at our house early on. But to make it a super occasion was a surprise birthday party for Hannah (a counselor). Her mother and younger sister came from Hartland with a beautiful, three-layer chocolate cake with ample frosting.
You can imagine these teenagers just off the Trail after months in the outdoors. What a treat for everybody.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the creation and conservation of this wonderful project – the Catamount Trail.
Seeing what this project is offering to these teenagers makes the whole thing one of Vermont’s Greatest Treasures!
You’re the greatest!
Sincerely,
Gert Lepine
Note: Gert, whose farm is located in the Mud City section of Morrisville, donated CTA's first trail easement in 1994.
